Thinking of the Outside: New art and the city of Bristol was an exhibition of newly commissioned artworks presented in unusual sites across Bristol’s historic city centre over six weeks from 21 May – 3 July 2005.

Artists included Nathan Coley, Phil Collins, Kathleen Herbert, Susan Hiller, Silke Otto-Knapp and João Penalva. The exhibition featured moving image installations, painting, sculpture and live events, Thinking of the Outside offered an intriguing route through the Old City, exploring the relationships between insider and outsider.
